Coriander Seed

Coriander Seed is the ground seed, or fruit, from the coriander plant. The leaves of the coriander plant are the herb Cilantro. It is one of only a few plants where several parts are used as separate spices or herbs. Nutmeg and Mace is another.

Coriander features a very distinctive flavor found in Indian, African, Mexican, Southwestern, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and other cuisines, as well as in their spice blends.

In India, it is used in many curry blends. We use it to handcraft several of our curry blends like Colombo Powder, Garam Masala, Madras Curry, Maharajah Curry, Tandoori Curry Spice and Vindaloo Curry Blend. It is also used in the North African Ethiopian Berbere Spice.

Coriander blends well with many other spices, as shown in curry spices. These include cumin, allspice, fennel, chile peppers, cinnamon, ginger, garlic and onion. You will find it in chili recipes, as well as in soups, stews, seafood, vegetables, chicken, chutneys, and other fruit dishes.
