Jalapeno Chile Pepper Flakes
Jalapeno Chile Pepper Flakes are the most widely used pepper flakes, owing to the popularity of the Jalapeno Pepper. You find them whole, crushed and powdered. When dried and smoked the Jalapeno is called the Chipotle Pepper.
Jalapenos are hot to many people but are by no means hot when compared to many chiles. They are considered a medium heat with about 3,500 to 8,000 on the Scoville Heat Unit scale, or about a 4-5 on 1-10 heat scale.
Use jalapeno flakes in your taco meat, soups, chilis, stews and salsas. Add to your enchilada and other Southwest sauces. Jalapenos are wonderful when used in corn bread, on vegetables as well as on eggs, and on pork dishes. Try a sprinkle on your pizza for a change.
You can substitute jalapeno flakes in any recipe asking for other chile pepper flakes.
