In my cup today? Well, it’s frozen and it’s purple, so it must be Iced Butterfly Pea Flower Tea. I like my iced teas frozen into a slushies, so I thought I’d try freezing Butterfly Pea Flower. If you haven’t tried it yet, Butterfly Pea Flower is a caffeine-free herbal tea made from the flower of the same name, which is native to Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. When steeped, the tea has a blue color from light to dark blue depending on how long you steep the flowers. It has been made into a healthy drink for centuries but has only recently has found its way outside the region.
It is traditionally mixed with lime or lemon, which changes the color from blue to purple. Some sugar or honey is added for sweetness. The flavor is unique and quite refreshing iced or hot. Curious? Try it for yourself. too. Cheers!
