Grilled Tomatoes with Italian Herbs

Grilled Tomatoes with Italian Herbs is an easy Summer side dish. We crafted our Italian Seasoning to be used in any recipe needing an Italian herb blend, balancing them so that any one herb dominates the flavor.

These Grilled Tomatoes can take the place of a side salad to accompany your burger, pasta dish, Chicken Piccata or even grilled seafood dish. They are so easy to make. Judging how hot to make your fire to get a nice char in a few minutes might take a few times, but that just means you get to enjoy them a couple more times adjusting your grill temperature to the recipe. The char gives them a nice, roasted flavor with the Italian Herbs in the seasoning.

This recipe is also another way to take plain tomatoes and give them some extra flavor. Once you have made them, you’ll want to make more, especially when Summer tomatoes are in season.

Serves 4

Ingredients:
4 Tablespoons Extra-virgin Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
2 Garlic Cloves, Finely Minced
1 Tablespoon Grated Lemon Zest
1 Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice
1 Teaspoon Coarse Kosher Salt
1 Teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Directions:
Set up a medium-high heat grill.

In a small mixing bowl, add 2 tablespoons of the olive oil, Italian Seasoning, minced garlic, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Whisk to combine. Set aside.

Lightly oil the hot grill. Cut 4 large tomatoes crosswise and brush cut sides with the remaining 2 tablespoons of the olive oil. Place cut side down on grill. Grill about 4 minutes until lightly charred, but not burnt. You might need an extra minute, but not much longer. If they don’t char in 5 minutes, your grill needs to be a bit hotter. Turn tomatoes over and grill another 2 to 3 minutes until the skins blister and begin to char a bit.

Transfer tomatoes to a serving platter. Season with the salt and pepper to taste, then drizzle the Italian Seasoning Oil evenly over them. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
