Horseradish Powder

Horseradish Powder

Horseradish Powder is made from fresh horseradish root which is dried and ground to a powder. The result is a pungent, hot condiment which is added to sauces and dishes when the zip of fresh horseradish is desired. Bottled horseradish loses its potency over time which is why powdered horseradish is kept in kitchen pantries. It is always on hand and has a long shelf life of a year or two.

Powdered  Horseradish can be added to deviled eggs or any egg dish, with which it pairs well. For an easy topping or dipping sauce, simply add the powder to sour cream, Crème fraîche, mayonnaise or even Greek yogurt. The result is a sauce with a nice kick.

Horseradish is usually found as a topping for roast beef or prime rib roast, either as freshly ground root or made into a sauce. For a biting and thick horseradish sauce, use 1 part powder with 3 parts water. For a thinner sauce add some lemon juice, vinegar or plain yogurt. The yogurt will make it creamier

You can also use Horseradish Powder to make a seafood sauce as you find for shrimp cocktail sauce. Use 1 cup of ketchup and 2 tablespoons horseradish powder.

If you want to add a twist to your Horseradish Sauce, add a bit of New Mexico Hot Green Chile Pepper Powder. It adds a wonderful dimension to the flavor.
