Japanese Cherry Green Tea
Our Japanese Cherry Green Tea is a wonderful, traditionally flavored green tea. It starts with a light, perfumy cherry scent and finishes with a delicate cherry flavor which dances on your tongue. We personally add a bit of sweetener which brings out the cherry flavor a bit more. Everyone is different of course.
This tea is starts with a base of fine Sencha green tea. Freeze-dried Sour Cherry pieces and cherry flavor is then added to create this tempting, light tea. Close your eyes and you might envision yourself in a Japanese Tea House.
In Japan, cherries are very essential to Japanese culture. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival, also known as Hanami, (which means “viewing flowers”), takes place in the Spring. The dates vary with the region since the weather in each region affects the blossoming of the cherry trees. People gather in parks to just view the beautiful trees. They only blossom for about 2 weeks, so these festivals are very special. Families will assemble picnics in the parks, which makes the festival into a social experience as well. They also gather to view the blossoming of plum trees. Hanami has been part of the Japanese inspired poems and other cultural for over 1000 years.
Cherry Blossom and Cherry Festivals are held in other countries, celebrating these beautiful flowers. In Washington, DC, the cherry trees around the National Mall and on the Potomac Tidal basin are Japanese Cherry Trees, for which an annual festival has been held since 1934. The Cherry trees were a gift from the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912. The National Cherry Festival is held in Traverse City, Michigan, where 75% of the Sour Cherries and 25% of the Sweet Cherries in the US are grown. It attracts over 500,000 for the week.
