Samurai Mate

Samurai Mate, or Samurai Chai Mate as we also call it,  is a uniquely delicious herbal tea. Known for higher caffeine levels, Mate has been drunk in Argentina, Brazil and other South American countries for thousands of years. Many are familiar with the plain Green Yerba Mate, drank in a gourd with a bombilla straw. We tea drinkers just make it by the cup like a tea, but we do have many who like the traditional gourd preparation.

When roasted, Mate takes on a more mellow flavor which can then be flavored with just about anything, adding a slightly nutty, roasted flavor to the beverage. Read below for links to our other mates.

Samurai Mate adds another twist. It starts with the Green Yerba Mate, and Green Rooibos for added flavor. Our blender then adds spices you find in Chai Teas. Add Mango, Papaya, other Citrus, Citrus flavors and other flavors and you have one tasty Mate. The citrusy flavors compliment the Chai and Green Rooibos flavors. It was love at first sip for us.

The Samurai were known for a bold, expressive culture, while Buddhist monks are known for using tea to keep them alert during long meditation sessions. Both of the cultures exist on energy, bold attitudes and forward thinking. Samurai culture still exists in Japan, and Buddhism is still spreading. The combination of both cultures is perfect expression of this Mate. Bold, expressive and full of energy and alertness.

Hot tea brewing method: Bring filtered or freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 heaping teaspoon, for each 8 oz of water in the tea cup or teapot. Pour the boiling water into the cup or pot. Cover and let steep for 5-10 minutes according to your taste. The longer the steeping time, the better the flavor as more fruit or herb flavor is extracted. Garnish and sweeten to taste.
