Sloppy Joes

Most of us grew up eating a Sloppy Joes. Many years ago, before there were packaged and canned mixes, we made our own seasonings for them. Our families and neighbors passed around their favorite recipes. We had a radio show in the Detroit area which also had several versions. When we opened our store, we wanted to share some of our family recipes, updating them with our spices and blends we’ve crafted in our store.

We created our Sloppy Joe Mix to create the flavors we remembered but with very little sugar, additional spices for a full savory flavor and a touch of chile pepper for just enough spice to make you crave more. The result is better than any store-bought mix. The recipe is on the packets, but here is the full recipe so if you buy larger quantities from us so you can make a larger batch for a hungry party.

Sloppy Joes are a quick, tasty meal by themselves, or served with some potato or corn chips, a side of potato salad or cole slaw, or even some baked beans. We have a delicious Dill Herb Potato Salad Recipe HERE. We also have a Gourmet Baked Beans Recipe HERE.

Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 to 1 ½ Pounds Ground Beef, Turkey or Protein Crumbles
1 1.25oz Packet of Sloppy Joe Mix
1 6oz can of Tomato Paste
1 ¼ Cups of Water
Hamburger Buns or Other Hearty Sandwich Rolls

Directions:
In a large non-stick skillet, add the ground meat or protein crumbles. Cook the meat until all of the pink is gone, drain any fat. Add the seasoning packet, the tomato paste and 1 ¼ cup of water. Mix together with a spatula and simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns or roll of your choice. Add a side of chips, cole slaw or other side dish.
