Houjicha – Rick’s Tea Face 03/04/2025

Every so often I get in the mood for Houjicha. I should drink it more often since I like it a lot, as many of our friends do, since it’s a very unique tea, both in preparation and taste. Not familiar with it? Let me tell you a bit about it and you might become a Houjicha sipper.

Houjicha is a Japanese green tea, but instead of being steamed during processing, as most green teas are, it’s heated in a porcelain crucible with charcoal. The result turns the tea leaf a beautiful medium brown color. It has a light roasted, nutty flavor. The roasted scent is also captivating. It’s very unique flavor unlike any other tea, which is why it has a loyal following. Also, notice the steeped color. It’s a beautiful reddish brown, toasted color.
