Dragonwell Green Tea – Rick’s Tea Face 02-09-2026
What’s in my tea cup today? It’s another of my cornerstone teas I’ve been mentioning since the first of the year. It’s Dragonwell Green Tea. If you missed my first “Tea Face” posts this year, you would have read that while I drink a lot of different teas during the year, I have a core group which I either drink regularly, or I drink periodically as favorites. The ones I sipping my way through right now are ones I don’t drink that often, but really enjoy, especially when I’m just sipping without anything else going on, maybe with a cat or dog on my lap, or catching up on my reading. So, what’s up with Dragonwell? It has a very loyal following, including me, just not that often with all my other options.
Dragonwell Green Tea is quite unique with a unique history, flavor profile and even the processing of the tea leaves. Because of the complexity of the processing, and only grown in a small area, even protected by the Chinese government and the EU as an “authentic” tea, the price is a bit higher, but well worth it if you appreciate its un uniqueness. Dragonwell has a lighter flavor, a light floral scent and a sweet character. It has a higher moisture content than most green teas when picked, and must be processed in a way to reduce the moisture to the right level without having it oxidize too much. It is hand processed in up to 10 steps and when finished, the leaves are pressed flat giving it its signature look. It must be sipped to be truly appreciated.
There is much more information about Dragonwell on our website, including one of the legends told about its origin.
