Japanese Cherry – Rick’s Tea Face 01/28/2026

It’s that time of the year when my End-of-January Tea Face is a bit more serious, or let’s say reflective. But, tea is always reflective to many tea sippers, which is why it is such a calming beverage to many, including us. 11 years ago this month we lost Cheryl’s mother, Noreen. And, 7 years ago today, we lost my brother, Dave. In past years, I’d profile one of his favorite teas, or an occasion-appropriate tea, like today. The tea is our Japanese Cherry Green Tea, and Dave liked cherry-flavored teas. Don’t know why since it’s not a flavor we drank growing up. But like many of tea sippers, we just get hooked on new flavors. It has a great cherry flavor, layered on a smooth green tea. If you haven’t tried it, you should, as it’s very popular among our friends.

Dave, while we didn’t agree on everything, was still my brother; but also my construction/remodeling consultant, and confidant when I needed one. If you know where to look, his builders expertise is in how we built out our store, as well as my nod to him. Around the Detroit area, his company’s handiwork is in thousands of stores, restaurants, churches and countless other jobs over 40+ years. If you live in SE Michigan, you’ve seen his work and been in places he and his crews built without even knowing. We also attended many Michigan (Go Blue!) football games and ate countless bags of Kettle Corn, which is partially why we have a Kettle Corn flavor black tea. We fished, barbecued, hung out at restaurants for hours, and just enjoyed each other’s company. We were there for each other when we lost our mother 21 years ago.

How does all this tie into our Japanese Cherry Green Tea, you ask? Good question. As I first said, sipping tea is a reflective experience for many of us. My bother liked cherry teas, cherry coffee, the Michigan Cherry Festival (great time if you get a chance), and cherry desserts. We also ate a lot of cherries while on vacation growing up. So, our Japanese Cherry tea is one more cherry tea he would have enjoyed, and a chance for me to think of growing up, and how cherries in many forms were part of our lives. And when sipping it, I reflect on Dave, what he taught me, what I taught him and how he was still my brother, and I miss him. I’m sure you have a food, activity or some other thing which makes you reflect on a loved one.

We have a lot more information about the Japanese Cherry Tea and other cherry factoids on our website. To read more about it, please click HERE. Once you’ve checked it out, stop by our store and pick some up, or from our website. Then, taste why it’s so popular. You might become a fan as well. Now, back to my cup and more reflection. Love you, Dave.
