Wakocha Japanese Black Tea – Rick’s Tea Face 04-15-2025
I’ve sipped more Wakocha Japanese Black Tea lately, so I had to “face” it again? Why have I sipped it more, and why highlight it again? Well, we’ve had more requests for it lately, and we’re coming out of the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival, and I like it a lot so it made sense to showcase this unique Japanese tea.
The uniqueness of Wakocha is in its tea leaf, which gives it its mild flavor and floral scent. Wonderful. Unlike the majority of Japanese teas, which are green teas, the cultivars grown for Wakocha are grown specifically to be oxidized into the Wakocha black tea. There are families who only grow these cultivars, and there are teahouses which only serve Japanese black teas. The oxidation these specific cultivars give the tea its unique flavor characteristics. The way to really enjoy Wakocha is to two cups; one Wakocha and one an English Breakfast. The differences will pop out. You’ll also notice the color is redder than a traditional black tea.
Curious? We have a number of our friends who have made Wakocha their go-to tea. Why not try it for yourself and see if it should be on your tea shelf. We have more information about it on our website. To check it out, please click HERE. Then, stop by and pick up a packet or buy some on our website. You might be surprised. Cheers!
