Earl Grey Citrus Provence

We crafted our Earl Grey Citrus Provence, as an homage to the classic European Earl Grey Teas, which are more citrusy than their American versions. Before we opened our store, we visited London and Paris. We brought back a number of teas from a couple tea shops in London and Paris, including several Earl Greys. We noticed that Earl Grey in Europe is more citrusy, with sharper flavors. The Provence Earl Grey we brought back had just enough lavender to let you know it was there but not overpower the bergamot.

So we blended a more British Earl Grey Provence, so as to accentuate the citrus side of the Bergamot flavor, while allowing the lavender to still come through. We added more citrus to the blend, balancing it against the bergamot and lavender to create just enough of the citrusy nuances to come through, but not so much to dominate. The result is a delightful cup of tea, reminiscent of the several Earl Grey teas we sipped while in Paris and London and brought back.

If you have not had our Earl Grey Citrus Provence before, think of the beautiful lavender fields in the Provence region of France. The heady scent dancing off your nose as the citrusy bergamot comes to the surface, while the citrus orange notes peek through. Now think of sipping a cup of the wonderful tea, while nibbling on a Madeleine Tea Cake, and gazing upon the grape vineyards for which the Provence region is also known.

Now that you have it in your mind, you need to try a cup yourself and invoke these images yourself. Be sure to invite several other Earl Grey loving sippers to enjoy the experience with you.

Hot Tea Steeping Instructions: Put 1 heaping teaspoon of loose tea for each 8oz of water in your tea cup or teapot. Using a tea infuser to hold the tea makes it easier. Pour boiling water over the tea. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes.

Iced Tea Instructions: For a Liter or quart use 2 heaping Tbsp. of loose tea into teapot. Pour 1 1/4 cup boiled water on tea. Steep 3 to 5 min. Strain tea into pitcher, adding water and/or ice to complete the liter or quart. Garnish & sweeten to taste.
