Owning a Yixing Clay Mug with Strainer is like owning a little artwork. Each mug has a beautiful embossed dragon print etched into the surface with a lid. They also have a yixing tea infuser/strainer, also with a gold embossed etching around the top.

We have 2 styles, a Brown and a Dark Brown, both with a gold dragon etched into the mug.

These are traditional yixing cups, which make them special. Yixing teaware has a long history, going back to around the year 1000. The teapots and tea cups are known for being unglazed, which allows traces of the tea flavors to be absorbed. They are made from a clay which contains minerals such as mica, quartz, kaolin, and iron oxide. The resulting colors from mineral composition can range from reds and browns to the purples. These colors allow the teaware to be crafted unadorned, embossed with a pattern, or decorated with an etching then hand colored. They can also be crafted into elaborate designs.

Because of the unglazed surface which absorbs trace flavors of the tea prepared in the pot or cup, it’s recommended not to wash the cup with soaps or detergents, but only washed with water. Over time enough of the tea flavor gets absorbed, so you should only use one variety of tea in each cup. One cup for green tea, one for your oolong, one for black tea, etc.

Each yixing cup is like a little work of art. Collectors of yixing teaware can be quite dedicated since there are so many different styles of cup and teapots, from very simple to very complex.

You will want to try a traditional Chinese tea with your yixing cup, so if you have not sipped that many traditional green teas, you might first consider our Jasmine with Flowers Green Tea, or our Ti Kuan Yin Oolong Tea. Both are very popular and the tastes are what you would be served in a traditional tea house in China or Asian district over here.
