Michigan Salad

Michigan Salad

A Michigan Salad is a classic salad in Michigan, whose origin is up for debate. Our version is as close to the original as you can get, with all the traditional salad ingredients. It is traditionally made with lettuce (Romaine or Field Greens), feta or blue cheese, walnuts, dried cherries or cranberries, and chopped apple.

It is served with a Maple Salad Dressing, which needs to have just enough maple flavor to come through, a tangy applely flavor, and beyond that, you’ll have many variations. Our Maple Herb Salad Dressing works very nicely with the Michigan Salad, or many other salads as you’ll figure out once you try it. Our recipe makes enough for 2 to 4 servings, depending on if you want a side salad or an entrée size. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Enjoy!

Serves 2 to 4

Ingredients:
Chopped Romaine Hearts (1 or 2 stalks)
1 Chopped Apple. Gala, Fuji or Granny Smith work best.
¾ Cup Dried Cherries, or Cherry Flavored Dried Cranberries if you can’t find cherries.
1 Cup Chopped Walnuts
1 Cup Feta (or Blue Cheese), Crumbled
1 Cup Sheffield’s Maple Herb Salad Dressing

Directions:
Portion the lettuce into each salad bowl. Top with the other ingredients. Drizzle 2 to 3 tablespoons of the Maple Herb Salad Dressing over each salad. Enjoy!

Maple Herb Salad Dressing
Ingredients:
¾ Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil (You can use Avocado or Canola Oil if you prefer)
¼ Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard, like Grey Poupon
3 Tablespoons Sheffield’s Maple Herb Salad Dressing Mix

Directions:
In a medium mixing bowl, add the Olive Oil, Vinegar, Dijon Mustard, and Maple Herb Salad Dressing Mix. Whisk to combine well. Set aside for 10 minutes to let the flavors develop.

Store any unused dressing in an airtight jar or other container in a refrigerator for up to a week.
