Our Icewine Tea has the same, grapey flavor you have in a glass of Icewine, just not is a glass. If you are familiar with Icewine, then you know the sweet flavor of which I speak. If you have been in our store, you might have heard Rick tell you about it and how it is one his absolute favorite teas. If you are not familiar, here’s the story.
Icewine is made from a very late harvested grape of several white grape varieties. So late, the grapes are harvested frozen, usually in November. It’s been called The Nectar of the Gods, The Nectar of Winter, “That Real Sweet White Wine” and other names. What this all means is that Icewine is pressed from grapes which have frozen on the vine which by that time, late in the Fall, they have shriveled. The sugar has concentrated so much, they are like little drops of pure sweetness. You only get about one drop of juice per grape as opposed to 5 or more times that for a non-frozen grape. With so little juice pressed per acre of grapes, the cost to produce is high and the price is even higher. The result is a very sweet, very expensive desert wine, well worth the price if you have every sipped it. The various grape vanities used can deliver a wide spectrum of fruity flavors.
For this Icewine Tea, our blender uses several black and white teas, Ontario Icewine, Currants and natural flavors. The flavor is complex with nuances of the grapey icewine, pears and berries. Very unique if the tea world and very unique on your tea shelf. You should add a touch of sugar to enhance the flavors.
If you are a fan of fruitier flavored teas, take a look at our Blackberry Black Tea, Berry Fusion Herbal Tea, or maybe our Peach Oolong Tea. We have many more. Check them all out on our website or in our store.
