Kaffir Lime Leaves | Makrut Lime Leaves

Kaffir Lime Leaves |Makrut Lime Leaves

Kaffir Lime Leaves, or Makrut Lime Leaves, are very popular in Balinese, Cambodian, Malaysian and Thai cuisine. Native to Southeast Asia, Kaffir Lime is also grown in Australia, California and Florida. Kaffir Lime Leaves are a signature flavor of many Thai curries, salads, soups and stir-fries. It is also known as the Makrut Lime. In Thailand, every meal features the complete spectrum of flavors – spicy and sweet, sour and tangy, hot and cold.

The lime and its leaves with their sweetly balanced profile, have the ability to integrate seamlessly with the full range. Soups, salad rolls, grilled meats, curries, noodles and any dish you can imagine use the pungent and aromatic leaves to add balanced layers of sweetness to the intricate flavors.

Fresh Kaffir Lime leaves have a shiny appearance and these leathery leaves grow together in an unusual attached form. Similar to bay leaves, whole Kaffir leaves are generally removed from the dish prior to serving. If you are going to leave them in a dish you should shred them very, very thin or grind them. They do retain their flavor when cooked so it is OK to add these early in the cooking process. But be careful with these as the longer they are in a dish the more flavor they provide.

We also carry other hard to find, exotic spices.  These include Galangal Root, Asofoetida Powder and Dried Curry Leaves.
