Pettiagalla Estate Ceylon Tea
Pettiagalla Estate Ceylon Tea is a true Orange Pekoe grade tea. The leaf is very dark, long and more wiry than what you normally see in most black teas. The brewed tea has a color from dark, coppery orange to dark red. It is also very aromatic. The flavor is on the strong side but with a mild, spicy and slightly malty character. The overall flavor and characteristics make Pettiagalla a great cup to sip all day.
The Pettiagalla Estate is in the Dimbula region of Sri Lanka, in the town of Balangoda. The altitude of the estate is around 4000 to 4500 feet above sea level. Teas grown at this high altitude are typically stronger than low altitude teas. The quality of Pettiagalla tea produced from these tea gardens are of such a high quality, they are considered some of the most prestigious in Sri Lanka. The estate dates back to 1880 and has only had a few owners, which accounts for the consistency of the tea.
If your “cup of tea” is a stronger tea with a full, bright flavor, then you must try Pettiagalla. We also have other single estate black teas, including Tezpur Estate Assam, Kenilworth Estate and Castleton Estate Darjeeling. We also have English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Scottish Breakfast and Canadian Breakfast teas. How about Anuhi Keemun, Vietnamese or Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling? We have even more. You might have to try them all.
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 4-5 minutes according to taste. Even though milk and a dash of sugar help capture the floral character of this tea, it is perfectly acceptable to consume this tea ‘straight-up’.
