Piña Colada Tea – Rick’s Tea Face 03/04/2024

My Tea Face this week is our Pina Colada Herbal Tea, which tastes like a pineapple, coconut Pina Colada, without the alcohol. Why? Well, let me explain. This week would have been my Grandfather’s 136th birthday. He was a tea drinker, of course, born in Boldon, in the north east part of England. His father was a coal miner, but he was a cabinet maker. He came over in 1921 when he was 33, with my grandmother, mother, and uncle coming over in 1922. In Pennsylvania, he had a cabinetry, and upholstery shop. When they moved to Michigan, he worked as a union carpenter until he retired at age 75. He worked on many of the major buildings, churches and schools around Detroit, including the Junior High Cheryl and I attended. He also made violins, which I still own.

Now how does this all tie into Pina Colada Tea? Good question. Granddad was 5’3″, a sparkplug of a guy, from whom I learned many skills, including some carpentry. He loved his tea and other beverages, including the mixes used in drinks such as a Tom Collins….and a Pina Colada. The dry mix ingredients, mixed with ice water tasted really good, my granddad would tell you. No alcohol, just the mix and water. My dad didn’t get it.

As a little kid, spending a lot of time with my granddad, he would keep a box of these mixes on his workbench and make us a glass every so often. I still look back on our times together, what I learned and the things he made, and I still have. So, anytime I sip the drinks he too drank, I remember and smile what we did together.

If you are a fan of Pina Coladas, or just the pineapple coconut flavors, then this is your tea. For more information, please click HERE. Then, stop by and pick some up, or order some online. Now, I must make a second cup and think reminisce and bit. Cheers!
