Yellow Mustard Seed
Yellow Mustard Seed has long been used in culinary creations. Mustard is a member of the cabbage family. It was mentioned in the Bible and other ancient texts. It were used by the Romans, the Greeks and many others along the spice trading routes. In the Middle Ages, Mustard seeds were ground and added to wine to make an early version of what we refer to salad or table mustard. The Yellow Mustard seed is used extensively in the production of American Mustards.
In Europe, whole mustard seeds or crushed seeds are used to make the coarse grain mustards we find in Germany and what we call deli mustard.
Whole Mustard seeds are used to make Vinaigrette Dressings, Marinades, Pickles, Curries and Chutneys.
Grind fresh before adding to most recipes, using a spice grinder or pepper mill. If toasted, allow to cool before grinding. Can be added whole to pickling recipes.
We also carry Brown Mustard Seeds and Yellow Mustard Powder.
