Fenugreek Leaves

Fenugreek Leaves, also known as Kasoori Methi, or Kasoori Methi, are commonly used in Indian Cuisine. But, you will also find them used in other Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Northern African cuisines like Ethiopian and Egyptian. They have a very savory, distinctive flavor and aroma similar to celery and fennel.

While they are commonly used in Indian dishes like Murgh Makhani, (or Butter Chicken) and Naan and Parantha Breads, they are widely used in soups, stews, dals (lentil dishes), and vegetable dishes. They are also found in curry dishes.

In Persian Cuisine, they are used in Ghormeh Sabzi, an herb stew, which can be made with meat or as a vegetarian dish.

As Fenugreek Leaves have made their way to the West, they are found in meat recipes, potato dishes, and pastas. They are used in seafood and chicken recipes. Because of the celery/fennel flavor, you will also find them in egg dishes like herb omelets.

When used in vegetable dishes, especially root vegetables like carrots, yams, parsnips, and potatoes, they are cooked with the dish or sprinkled on at the end.

You can see that Fenugreek Leaves are very versatile, and with their distinctive, pungent flavor, they can add a very savory flavor to your dish, whether a traditional Indian recipe, other Mediterranean region dish, or your own creation.
