English Breakfast Tea – Rick’s Tea Face 02-25-2023
At this time of the year, I have a lot of convergent dates which mean a lot to me, all of which have family tea tie-ins, on my British side. I’m kind of between most of them, so why not honor them all in some way today. This is my second of 3 cups of our English Breakfast Tea, which seems right, and it’s also our default daily tea most days to start with.
My mother’s family was from Northern England. My mother was born there and came over when she was 3 years old, following my grandfather, a cabinet maker. They were all tea drinkers. My 2 uncles were also tea drinkers, one born across The Pond, the other on this side. To be fair, my dad’s side were also occasional tea drinkers.
So where’s the convergence? Stay with me. My brother’s birthday was Feb 6th. My grandfather’s will be March 6th, and my grandmother’s will be May 1st. One uncle’s birthday was December 22th, and my other uncle’s was November 19th. OK, that’s a long span, but I had to pick a common date and today was it. It’s cold outside, so why not have several hot cups today and explain a bit more about why tea is so important to both of us which you pick up on in our store.
But why English Breakfast Tea? Well, it is an English blend, but not just any. Ours is blended from several teas from Sri Lanka, several regions of India, and Kenya. It’s consistent flavor is the mark of the Master Blenders we use for this tea, and why it’s the same EB we’ve sipped since we opened almost 11 years ago.
