Ground Marjoram is the ground version of Whole Leaf Marjoram. It is a perennial herb that is commonly used in the cooking from France and Italy. Marjoram is similar to Oregano with a more delicate flavor. Marjoram is indigenous to the Mediterranean area and was known to the Greeks and Romans, who looked on it as a symbol of happiness.
Many recipes will specify whether you are to use a leaf, crushed or ground version of a spice or herb, but not always. A ground or powdered herb disperses easier in many recipes. We carry whole leaf or crushed and ground or powdered versions of some of our spices and herbs so you can decide which will work better.
Marjoram is used widely in dishes of beef, pork, chicken and seafood. It works especially well with vegetables, roasted, sauteed and steamed. It also adds wonderful flavor to roasted potatoes. It is a delicious seasoning for tomato based sauces, olive oil and vinegar salad dressings.
Found in many Italian Seasoning Blends, including our own blend, it adds a wonderful touch to Italian, French and other European dishes.
