Japanese Fukamushi Sencha – Rick’s Tea Face 03/12/2024

Maybe it’s Spring’s warmer temps and the nicer weather. Maybe I just wanted a pure, unflavored tea today. Yeah, that’s it. Sometimes I just like a straight cup of tea, whether black, green, white, or other tea. Today it was our Japanese Fukamushi Green Tea I wanted, which is a very flavorful Japanese green tea. If you’ve never truly enjoyed a higher quality Japanese green tea, let me tell you about it, so you’ll understand why it’s a special tea for me.

Many Japanese teas have a fuller, grassier flavor than Chinese green teas. They are rolled finer, and when steeped can sometimes have some of these fine tips fall through the infuser and into the cup, adding a slightly cloudiness to the tea, which is normal. I find that the fuller flavor of the Japanese teas also have more complex nuances depending on the steeping time and even the water temperature used. Sounds crazy, but if you get into the real fine points of teas, you can break them down this way when you’re sipping them. We currently work with one of the oldest tea families in Japan, which allows us to buy direct and offer this line of tea at very reasonable prices.
