Chinese Five Spice Chicken

Chinese Five Spice Chicken

Chinese Five Spice Chicken makes flavorful use of this traditional, savory Chinese spice blend. The cinnamon, cloves and other spices, along with the soy sauce, garlic and onion create a traditional Chinese baked chicken dish found in many Asian restaurants.

Chinese Five Spice Powder has made it’s way into many Western recipes, so don’t be afraid to use it with pork, fish, vegetable and noodle dishes. Have fun and experiment with it. We have customers who say they use it “on everything”.

Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients:
1 Medium Chicken Cut Up, about 3 pounds
2 Teaspoons Granulated Garlic, or 2 Fresh Garlic Cloves, Finely Chopped
1 Medium Onion, Finely Chopped
⅓ Cup Soy Sauce
2 Tablespoons Peanut Oil (Canola Oil can be used)
2 Teaspoons Chinese Five Spice Powder

Directions:
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the oil, garlic, onion and Chinese Five Spice Powder. Mix well. Place the chicken pieces in a marinating container or large reclosable bag. Pour the marinade over the chicken and coat well. Close the bag and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours or overnight if you have the time to let the flavors develop even deeper. Turn the marinating chicken once or twice to keep it coated. After marinating, put the chicken pieces in a baking dish. Brush with the marinade and reserve the remaining mixture. Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for at least an hour, until the internal temperature is 165 degrees. Brush with the reserved marinade a couple times while cooking.

When done, serve with a side of roasted potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables, or a rice side dish if you want to keep an Asian theme to your meal.
