Thyme Leaves

Thyme Leaves or Thyme is a very fragrant, perennial herb which is popular in many European cuisines. It features a strong, fresh, lemony flavor. The French like to use it liberally in soups, stews, sauces, vinegars, Bouquet Garni and Herbes de Provence. They also use it to pair with fish, poultry and meat dishes. Thyme has long been used to flavor alcohol and cheese. Thyme is an essential herb in many Clam Chowders.

In the Middle East, it’s used to make the herb blend Za’atar, which is the Arabic word for thyme. We use it in our Lebanese Za’atar as the base herb. It is used in Creole and Cajun dishes and for extra flavor when “blackening” meat and fish dishes. It’s also used in Caribbean and Jamaican Jerk Seasonings. Use with pork and seafood dishes.

Add it to cheese and egg dish like quiche, frittatas, and omelets. It adds a wonderful fresh flavor to potatoes, tomatoes, and other vegetables. Add some to your tomato sauces. Thyme is also widely used to flavor balsamic vinegar and infused olive oils.
