Ground Black Pepper Medium Grind
Our Ground Black Pepper Medium Grind is 28 mesh, which is the standard grade for ground pepper used around kitchens. Not too fine and not too coarse, the medium grind is the most versatile.
Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum) are unripe, Green Peppercorns, which have been heated in hot water, then dried. As they dry, the outer skin shrinks and dries, taking on the black color.
The Green Peppercorns, which are also the unripe fruit from the Piper Nigrum tree, are picked in an immature state and then dried. White Peppercorns are the fully ripened fruit, which when dried, sheds the outer cover, leaving the ripe, white seed.
Black Peppercorns have a medium to hot spiciness and can be intensely fragrant. These characteristics can change with the annual harvest depending on weather conditions which affect the flavor and aroma.
