Kashmiri Chili Pepper Powder

Kashmiri Chili Pepper Powder is from the Kashmiri Chili grown in Kashmir in the north of India. We’re used to spelling the peppers “chile”, but the Kashmiri is commonly spelled Chili, or Chilli. Any way you spell it, it’s a pepper not to be missed. Not familiar with it? You might and not even know it.

Kashmiri Chili Peppers are a sweet pepper with a bright, vibrant red color. The heat level can be anywhere from mild to hot. Ours is a medium heat level, but not too spicy, just very flavorful, allowing it to impart a wonderful flavor and color, while the other spices, come through in the dish. It is used in many Indian recipes, including Tandoori Chicken, Rogan Josh, Tikka Masala, some Vindaloos, and many others. We use it in our Tikka Masala Spice Blend.

You will find Kashmiri Chili also used in marinades and as a rub. With its red color and medium heat, you can substitute it in other recipes calling for a chile pepper, or even a paprika. The spiciness level will just be different. The flavor change might surprise you. Use as a sprinkle garnish if you dare
